Questions about Hyperloop

Short, plain answers to the questions people ask most.

Hyperloop is designing a brain-like computer: a computer with a human mind. The design is complete on paper; nothing has been built yet.

Not affiliated with the hyperloop transport concept or hyperloop-ai.com.

What is Hyperloop?

Hyperloop is a company whose mission is a computer with a human mind. It is designing a brain-like computer. The design is complete on paper; nothing has been built yet.

Is Hyperloop the transport hyperloop?

No. Hyperloop has nothing to do with trains or travel. It is not affiliated with the hyperloop transport concept, with HyperloopTT or with hyperloop-ai.com. The name is the only thing they share. Hyperloop works on one thing: the design of a computer with a human mind.

Is anything built?

No. The work is a design only. Design complete on paper. Nothing built yet. No part of the brain-like computer has been made, run or tested. Hyperloop Cooling, the cooling plant, is a design / idea, nothing built. The status page holds the current state, with a date.

What is a brain-like computer?

A brain-like computer, also called a neuromorphic computer, is a computer whose design borrows ideas from the brain. Most computers in use today keep memory in one place and processing in another, and move data between them. The brain keeps memory and processing close together, and many parts of it work at the same time. A brain-like chip tries to follow some of these ideas in silicon. Research groups have worked on such chips for many years. The primer on brain-like computers names some public examples.

What does “a computer with a human mind” mean?

It means a computer that has a mind in the way a person has a mind: it takes in the world, keeps what matters, and thinks about it. This is the aim of the work. It is not a description of a machine that exists. The about page explains it in more detail.

Is this mind uploading?

No. Nobody's mind is copied, scanned or moved into a machine, and that is not the plan. The aim is a mind of its own, not a copy of a person who lives or has lived.

Can I buy it or try it?

No. There is no product to buy, order, download or try, and there is no waiting list. The work is a design. If that changes, the status page will say so first.

Who do I contact?

Write to lab@hyperloop.company. Questions about the mission, the status of the design, the name or this site are all welcome.

Where can I follow updates?

Hyperloop posts updates on X and on LinkedIn. The status page is the one place that states where the work stands, with the date it was last changed.
